Here Come the Hawks and Here's Johnny!

Nashville Predators v Chicago Blackhawks
Hello everyone,

Johnny Sole at your service...

I sit here in my house, with raindrops launching down outside, feeling this is a perfect time to join in on the fun of blogging. Here is my intro post...

It is time for The Big Dead Sidebar to focus on Chicago Blackhawks hockey. It is unfortunate that I did not begin this earlier in the season, or even in the off season, since that is when the franchise's revival actually began.

The Hawks hired John McDonough from the Cubs to be the president of the franchise in 2007, and more great additions came this past off season. Veteran coach Scotty Bowman was pulled from the Red Wings and named their senior adviser. Veteran broadcaster Pat Foley rejoined the team after spending some time with the AHL's Chicago Wolves.

Now, six months later, the Blackhawks are in fourth place in the Western Conference with the best young talent in the NHL. They recorded their 100th point of the season last Wednesday Apr 8, the first time the Hawks reached the century mark since 1993 (16 seasons if you're not a math major...i'm not either, don't worry). Chicago also broke a single-season franchise record for attendance, and they lead the league in attendance this season.

They wrap up the season this weekend with games on Saturday and Sunday against the division-champion, arch-rival Red Wings. The Hawks need one point to clinch home ice advantage in the first round of the postseason.

What a perfect time to start and continue my blog on the Hawks, and you will see another post soon, before they begin the pair of games with Detroit.
